Local Service Projects for Cardinals Give Back Day
Fairmont Jr./Sr. High School is seeking service project opportunities for our annual “Cardinals Give Back Day” on Friday, Oct. 24th (rain date: Oct. 31st).
This day is our way of showing gratitude for the support the Fairmont community consistently gives to our students and schools. On this day, students in grades 9–12 will step out of the classroom and into the community to serve others.
In past years, our students have assisted individual residents with projects such as yardwork, landscaping, window washing, gutter cleaning, and home organization. They have also partnered with local businesses and organizations by cleaning the downtown area and city parks, volunteering at nursing homes, helping the Humane Society, and supporting businesses with seasonal needs. Each project, big or small, is an opportunity for our students to give back to the community that so generously invests in them.
If you or a business you represent could use some extra help this fall, we invite you to submit a service project application. Google Form Applications are available on the school website at www.fairmont.k12.mn.us or on the district’s Facebook page. If you prefer a paper application, those can be picked up in the Fairmont Jr./Sr. High School office.
Applications are due Monday, Oct. 6th. For questions, please contact Principal Chad Brusky at cbrusky@fairmont.k12.mn.us or (507) 238-4411.
We are deeply thankful for the strong partnership between our school and community. Cardinals Give Back Day is not only a chance for students to serve—it is a reflection of what we can accomplish together when schools and communities work side by side.

Parents and families are essential partners in promoting good attendance because they have the bottom-line responsibility for making sure their children get to school every day. Just as parents should focus on how their children are performing academically, they have a responsibility to set expectations for good attendance and to monitor their children’s absences, so that missed days don’t add up to academic trouble.
-Make getting students to school on time every day a top priority.
-Alert schools and community agencies to barriers that keep kids from attending class.
-Ask for and monitor data on chronic absence.
-Demand action to address systemic barriers that may be causing large numbers of students to miss too much school.
