Our FFA food science team received first place yesterday at our regional event and has earned their way to the next level. Congratulations Ladies!! Abi Sundeen (received 2nd place individual), Camrin King, Sylvia Obebeck and Lacie Fetters. Not only did Lacie step in about an hour before we left due to a last minute teammate having to back out due to illness, she also received first place in the region.

Dear Parents/Guardians of students in 5-8th grade: The Fairmont Area Schools spelling bee will be administered via THE ONLINE TESTING PLATFORM. Please encourage your child to enter this event. In addition to improving student’s spelling skills and increasing their vocabularies, spelling bee participation provides valuable experience in developing poise — a necessary skill for success in public speaking, performing arts and athletics. The Scripps National Spelling Bee’s online testing platform allows schools and sponsors to host the spelling bee safely and securely via online tests. To compete in our local competition, your child must have a current account in the platform for this school year. You can do this by visiting https://online-test.spellingbee.com/resetpassword, enter the email address used to create the online testing platform account and creating a new password for the account if necessary. If you haven’t previously created an account, you may register for one via this link – click “Register” and follow directions. Once you have verified your child’s account, please email me at shines@fairmont.k12.mn.us, let me know your child’s name and I will be able to assign the online test to your child and send you study words. Your child must complete the test before the given deadline (January 31st), and the test can be taken on any device with a web browser, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones. Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge are our preferred browsers. We do not support Safari for desktop or Internet Explorer. The top two spellers from Fairmont Area Schools with the highest scores will move on to compete at the SCSC Regional Spelling Bee on Tuesday, Feb 22nd, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the South Central College Conference Center in North Mankato. The winning student will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee to be held in Washington, D.C. the last week of May. SCSC Regional Spelling Bee may include online tests in lieu of in-person spelling bee events. We will communicate any changes to the venue, time or format of the bee as soon as possible due to changes in COVID-19 conditions or regulations. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about our spelling bee. I look forward to having your child represent their school in our competition! Sincerely, Shari Fairmont Area Schools Spelling Bee Coordinator

“He took the Who’s feast, he took the Who pudding, he took the roast beast. He cleaned out that ice box as quick as a flash. Why, the Grinch even took their last can of Who hash.” And put them all on our table. Thanks to a Wonderful Student Council for all the goodies today.
